Manfred Bietak
Manfred Bietak - (born 6 October 1940 in Vienna) is an Austrian Egyptologist and archaeologist.
Professor of Egyptology at the University of Vienna and director of the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Cairo. In 2004 he was a professor at Harvard University.
He studied archeology at the University of Vienna. From 1961 to 1965 he participated in UNESCO's rescue at Sayala in Nubia. Bietak is best known as the director of the Austrian excavations at Tell el-Daba in the Nile Delta.
Since March 1999 he has been a lecturer at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He is an author and co-author of several university textbooks and an editor of the Egyptian periodical Ägypten und Levante. Authoritative control (person):
