NPAPI

The Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface (NPAPI) is an API for creating web browser plugins. Allows you to create plugins that support different types of embedded objects on an HTML page.

The first version was introduced in Netscape Navigator and later in other browsers such as Mozilla Application Suite, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari.

In 2013, Google announced that it would retire NPAPI from its browsers at the end of 2014: Google Chrome and Chromium.

By the end of 2015 Mozilla announced that it also intends to remove support for most NPAPI plugins (except Flash Player). With the release of Firefox 52.0, most NPAPI plugins are no longer supported. Comments
