Sonny Greer


Sonny Greer Sonny Greer (born December 12, 1895 in Long Beach, New York, USA) is an American drummer. Since 1919 he has performed in Washington at the Howard Theater Orchestra. Then he met Duke Ellington, who invited him to work. Greer invited and from 1924 to 1954 he performed at the Duke Ellington Orchestra, thanks to which he gained popularity. He also collaborated with such musicians as Johnny Hodges, Red Allen, Tyree Glenn and J.C. Higginbottham. He also appeared in the 1970s with Brooks Kerr's Trio.
