Kompania Nawarska
The Navarre Company - a fierce army formed in 1376, in the service of the kings of Navarre, fought for their rights to the Kingdom of Albania, and then on their own in the Principality of Athens and the Peloponnese.
The Nawarska company was established around 1376. It was made up of soldiers who took on Ludwig of Evreux, the brother of Charles II of Navarre. Ludwik, due to his marriage with Joanna of Durazzo (now Durres), claimed his right to the Kingdom of Albania. In 1376, Nawara's mercenaries landed in northern Greece and attacked the troops of the magnate Karol Topia. Eventually they won the Dyrrachion, but soon their dead leader and the leaders of the Company considered the contract to be terminated. They took Dyrrachion to 1378 and marched into Greece. At the forefront of the company came two leaders: Jan of Uturia and Mahiot of Coquerel. In 1380, Jan succeeded in treason and unprepared for the defense of the Principality of Athens: Athena and Thebes. Athens managed to regain the Catalans. In Beocji Jan of Uturia created a separate state for eight years. Mahiot from Coquerel set out for the Peloponnese, where he supported the warlord James of Baux. After his death in 1383, the Nawarians under the leadership of Mahiota of Coquerel took up the battle over the Achaean empire, at which time they also aspired: Joannici, Maria of Brittany, Louis II of Clermont, Pope Urban VI and Count Amadeus Sabaudzki. After his death in 1386, he was succeeded by Peter Lebourd of Saint-Supernan, who managed to seize power and stabilize the situation in the Duchy. The wife of Peter was Maria Zaccaria and after his death in 1402, the rule of the Duchy was transferred to the genocidal family of Zaccaria. Bibliography
