Lake District (Žemaičių aukštuma) is also known as the Šmětina Upland - a moraine highland in the western part of Lithuania, part of the Usti Żský Štrunský kraj.

Highland is made up of clay, sand and marl. The altitude is 119 meters above sea level. The highest point - Medvėgalis rises to a height of 234.6 m. There are many glacial lakes and marshes. The hilly terrain is covered with spruce forests, meadows and pastures and fields.
