Perry Ellis
Perry Ellis (born 3 March 1940, May 30, 1986) is an American fashion designer and creator of Perry Ellis. He was born in Portsmouth, the only child of Edwin Ellis and Winifred Roundtree. In 1963 he received a master's degree from the University of New York. He started his career in the clothing industry in Richmond, but only in New York in 1976 introduced his first collection of Portfolio. In 1978 he founded his own fashion house. He died at the age of forty-six as one of the first prominent US citizens who died of AIDS. From 1980 until his death he was a partner of Laughlin Barker (because he was a homosexual). From a short-lived physical relationship with a longtime friend, Barbara Gallagher had a daughter, Tyler Alexandra Gallagher Ellis (born 1984).
