Jean Dunand


Jean Dunand, Peacock tray, 1914, Orsay Museum, Paris Jean Dunand (born 20 May 1877 in Lancy, 1942 in Paris) is a French-born Swiss decorator. He was one of the greatest creators of art déco.

In 1896 he settled in Paris. Initially he was involved in sculpture and then focused on decorative forms. He performed, among others. fine decorative items in which he went from the style of Art Nouveau to the geometric forms of art déco with a distinct influence of cubism. Dunand also signed designs of interiors (including passenger ships) created by other artists and performed in his workshop. The fame was awarded to the French Embassy's extermination project, exhibited at the 1925 Paris Decorative Art Exhibition. This exhibition gave birth to the Art Deco. Authoritative control (person):
