François Magendie (born 6 October 1783 in Bordeaux, 7 October 1855 in Sannois) is a French physiologist.
Since 1836 he was a professor at the Parisian University Collège de France. From 1821 a member of the French Academy of Sciences. He was one of the pioneers of physiology and pathophysiology. He made significant discoveries related to the physiology of the brain by developing the technique of vivisection. He wrote papers describing heart function, gastrointestinal tract - the first to describe the emetic and the nervous system. Authoritative control (person):
