Mariusz Skibniewski


Dominik Mariusz Skibniewski SJ coat of arms, used name Mariusz (born April 20, 1881 in Balice near Młypka, died September 27, 1939 in Przyłbice) - priest, Jesuit, historian of the Church, professor of the Pontifical East Institute in Rome. Son of Bronisław and Olga from Dzieduszycki. Brother Alexander and Stefan Leon. In 1900 he graduated from the Private High School in Chyra, and then went to Rome, where he graduated in philosophy and theology at the Collegium Germanicum of the Pontifical Gregorian University. He received a doctorate in philosophy in 1903 and a theology in 1907. In 1906 he was ordained a priest in Rome. He entered the Jesuit Order in 1907.

He lectured on the history of the Church, among others. at the universities in Lublin and Cracow. In 1935 he went to Rome and taught the history of the church at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Instituto Orientale). He authored scientific publications on the history and hostiography of the Church.

After the outbreak of World War II, he was accidentally found at the Szeptycki family court in Przybbice, near Lviv, where he was executed by the NKVD on September 28, 1939 with the owners of the court. Bibliography
