List of minimum equipment (MEL) - the English minimum equipment list - is a list of defective parts of the aircraft with which the operator may allow the aircraft to operate. This list is subject to authorization by the civil aviation authority of the country which certifies this operator. This list must take full account of the list of defective parts of the aircraft with which the manufacturer of the aircraft has declared that the aircraft will be put into service. The manufacturer's list is referred to as the Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL).
