Worthington Whittredge


Encampment Along The Platte Worthington Whittredge (born May 22, 1820, February 25, 1910) is an American painter, representing the Hudson River School. He was born on a farm near Springfield, Ohio, initially working as a portraitist and photographer. In the years 1859-1869 he traveled in Europe, studied painting in Düsseldorf, his teacher was Emanuel Leutz.

After returning to America, Whittredge took on the landscaping of the Hudson River School. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, performing sketches, painting in a studio in New York.
