Map of British East Africa from 1911
Imperial British East Africa Company is a British trading company that administers British East Africa. The company was founded in 1885, after the end of the Berlin Conference. It was headed by Sir William Mackinnon with the support of the British Government. Most of the company's operations centered around Mombasa and the coast. The company proved to be ineffective, so in 1894 it was decided to dissolve it, and the area managed was transformed into the Protectorate of East Africa.
