Ludwig von Cobenzl


Ludwig von Cobenzl (born 21 July 1712, died 20 January 1770) is an Austrian diplomat. His son was Johann Ludwig von Cobenzl (1753-1809), also a diplomat.

Ludwig von Cobenzl quickly entered the diplomatic service. In April 1743 he was the electoral commissioner (Wahlcomissar) in Mainz. Then he was an Austrian agent in the counties of Germany: Rheinland, Swabian and Westphalian.

In 1753, he was appointed Minister for Plenipotentiary in Brussels.

In Brussels, Ludwig von Cobenz's son Johann Ludwig von Cobenz was born and in 1769 founded the literary society "Literarische Gesellschaft", which was the beginning of the future Belgian Academy of Sciences. Bibliography
