Kazimierz Szuman


Kazimierz Szuman (born 5 May 1826 in Wladyslawowo, Czarnków district, now Huta, died 28 January 1894 in Poznan) - Polish social activist, lawyer.

He was the son of a lawyer and landlord of Maurice and Henry of Hoyer's house, Henry's younger brother. He graduated from Leszno Gymnasium and studied law at the University of Wrocław. He participated in insurgency battles in Wielkopolska in 1848. He worked for 1859 as a judge in Rogoźno, later practicing lawyers in Września and Szamotuły. From 1872 he lived in Poznan.

He was a member of the Poznań Society of Friends of Science (from 1858, Faculty of Law and Economics) and an activist (also the president) of the Society for Scientific Aid.

In 1872, with his brother Henry, he founded a joint stock company, Bank Włościański in Poznan. He was a member of the board of the Poznań Bar Association.

He accused Count Edward Raczyński of irregularities and embezzlement at the construction of the Golden Chapel at the Poznań Cathedral. These accusations led to the Count's suicide. He was married to Isabel Thiel (1826-1880), had daughters Izabela (after Rakowicz's husband) and Helena (wife of doctor Tomasz Drobnik) and son of Jan. Bibliography
