Sotir Kosta


Sotir Kosta: Sotir Spiro Kosta - (born 6 June 1936 in Buhal near Përmet) - an Albanian sculptor. Curriculum vitae

In 1964 he graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Tirana Institute of Art. After graduation, he worked on preservation of sculpture at the Archaeological Research Center in Tirana. In 1975 he went to the Institute of Cultural Monuments as a specialist in mosaic restaurants. He has been the curator of the "Albanian Art for centuries" exhibition, opened in Paris in 1974. In the years 1980-2001 he repeatedly represented Albania in seminars and conferences devoted to the protection of monuments in Macedonia, Greece and Italy.

The first state award for his own sculpture was given in 1957, exhibiting a plaster figure Vajza (Girl). In 1973-1981 he was twice awarded the Naim Frasheri Award for his work. He specializes in portraiture, most of his works are inspired by the history of Albania. One of the most famous works of Kosta is the bust of Leki Dukagjini, exhibited at the National Museum of Skanderbeg in Kruja. At present, his works are in 14 Albanian museums, most in the National Gallery of Art in Tirana. In 2006 he was invited to Poland by the AGH Educational Association, his works were exhibited in one of the Cracow galleries. Bibliography
