Jan Mycielski (artist)
Jan Kazimierz Mycielski (born June 24, 1864 in Wydawach, Gostyń District, died April 3, 1913 in Florence) is a Polish painter and graphic designer, farmer.
He was the son of Stanislaw (1823-1878), owner of the Poniec estate, imprisoned in 1848 and Maria of the House of Turno, the grandson of Ludwik, brother of Joseph. He attended the gymnasium in Wroclaw, then educated at the college in England. He studied at the University of Halle, in Munich he served in the military. During this period he made contact with Polish artists living in Munich, which prompted him to undertake painting studies at the local Academy of Fine Arts. He also studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow and Michał Pociechy (private).
He was the creator of oil paintings - landscapes, flowers, still life, as well as prints depicting the landscapes of Wielkopolska and Italy. He traveled frequently to Italy, where he brought sketches and finished paintings. He exhibited among others. in Zachęta (in 1897 Winter and View from Reichenhall) and in the Salon of the Artists Association in Poznań (in 1918 a large posthumous exhibition). Mycielski's works are located in the collections of the National Museum in Poznan and the Museum in Leszno.
Apart from his artistic work he dealt with the management of the Wydawa estate. He was a patron of agricultural circles and he worked for the cause of education. He did not have a family. He was buried in Gostyń in the family graves. Bibliography
