Jerzy Bytnerowicz


Jerzy Bytnerowicz (born January 5, 1919 in Poznań, died January 4, 2002 in Slupsk) - Slupsk pioneer, organizer of state and economic administration and cultural life in Slupsk. Honorary Citizen of Slupsk since 1994. Curriculum vitae

He came to Słupsk in 1945. In the early days of his stay in the city he began organizing local self-government. His model has been distributed throughout Poland. In the 1940s he was a coordinator of the City's Detachment Department, then secretary of the Social Committee for Reconstruction of the Capital and the Country (he helped to restore three important buildings: the Pomeranian Dukes Castle, the New Gate and the Dramatic Theater). Thanks to him, in the post-war years, cooperation between Słupsk and Lodz was established.

On his initiative in 1964, Słupsk Social and Cultural Society (STSK) was established, in which he served as Vice President, since 1983 the President. In 1967 he became the chairman of the Organizing Team, which organized the Polish Piano Festival (the largest music event in Poland in the Słupsk region). Bytnerowicz also co-organized the Organ and Chamber Music Festival, the Slupsk Chamber Choir, the Polish Historical Society in Slupsk. For two terms he was the president of the Department of the Provincial Society for the Care of Monuments, which was created thanks to his efforts. He organized the Music School in Slupsk, co-founded (1959) and worked in the first Słupszczan Circle, thanks to which the monuments of Fryderyk Chopin and Karol Szymanowski were unveiled in Słupsk.

Throughout his life he had many functions connected with Słupsk's social life. He was the head of the Organization and Legal Department, the director of the Office of the National Council, the councilor of the MRN (1979-1984), a member of the presidium, and then the first independent chairman, who introduced democratic opposition activists to the Council.

Jerzy Bytnerowicz has been nominated numerous times for his work. The Commander's Cross, Officer's and Cavalry's Order of Polonia Restituta, Order of the Second Class Labor Medal, Słupsk's 650th Medal, Honorary Badge of the City of Lodz and the Golden Badge of the Reconstruction of Warsaw.
