Maciej Jakubowicz
The grave of Maciej Jakubowicz on the new Jewish cemetery in Cracow Maciej Meir Jakubowicz (Hebrew מאיר יאקובאוויטץ, born 1911 in Wadowice, died July 19, 1979 in Cracow) - Polish activist of the Jewish community, president of the Jewish Religious Association, 1945-1979, then the Congregation of the Jewish Faith in Cracow, Polish Army.
During World War II he participated in the September campaign. He was a prisoner of Montelupich, Wiśnicz and concentration camps. After the war he was active in protecting the surviving Jewish monuments in Cracow. Following the anti-Semitic campaign that followed the events of March, he was a victim of communist repression.
From marriage with Maria Róża from the house of Pistol (1915-2007) he had a son Tadeusz (born 1939). His nephew was Czeslaw Jakubowicz (1920-1997). He was friends with John Paul II. He is buried in the main avenue of the new Jewish cemetery in Cracow.
