Jerzy Räuber
Jerzy Räuber (born 1410, died c. 1458), Elbląg rallyer, activist of the Prussian Union.
He came from a family of merchants, acting as mayors and mayors in Elblag from the beginning of the 14th century; His father was probably Werner Räuber, from 1411, and in 1426-1439 the mayor of Elblag Old Town. Jerzy Räuber was rallying around 1445, in 1448 to become more involved in the activities of the Prussian Union, fighting for political and economic influence in the Teutonic State. He participated in congresses of the Duchy of Prussia and the meetings of Prussian towns. Independently in 1449 he was a member of the Grand Master Teatr Konrad von Erlichshausen's message sent to Lübeck and Bruges for the negotiation of Hanseatic and English merchants. He also participated in similar missions in subsequent years.
In 1450, the new great master of the Teutonic Order Ludwik von Erlichshausen took active part in the dissolution of the Prussian Union, finding an ally in the person of Emperor Frederick III. Räuber participated in numerous negotiations with the great champion and subsequent congresses of the Union, in which he was consulted on further proceedings. In the spring of 1453, together with the knight from the land of Chełm, Jakub from St. Räuber was sent to Poland to obtain the King Casimir Jagiellonian for the Prussian Union, which did not bring much success.
In 1454, after the outbreak of the Prussian state against the Teutonic Order, Räuber was absent from the Prussian Union delegation, who had obtained a copy of Prussian incorporation in Kraków with King Casimir. In June of that year he participated in the public oath of the king, staying in Elblag. In the following months he took part in discussions of representatives of the Prussian states with the Polish monarch, including in the summer of 1457 in Malbork, when he obtained several privileges for the Old Town of Elblag; After 1466, during the period of Royal Prussia, the privilege of Malbork allowed Elblag to maintain its high rank.
The last manifestation of Räuber's public activity dates from September 1458; At that time he was involved in negotiations on the location of the brigid monastery in the former Teutonic castle. Probably died at the end of 1458. Bibliography
