Joseph (Prince of Brazil)

Anastácio de Bragança (born August 20, 1761, September 11, 1788) is the oldest child of the queen-monarch Maria I and her husband King Peter III, brother of John. VI.

Joseph was born in the palace of Ajuda, near Lisbon. After the birth of his grandfather king Joseph I Reformator gave him as the first male title of Prince Beira. His mother was then the princess of Brazil and the successor of the Portuguese throne. On February 21, 1777, as a 15-year-old boy, he married his 30-year-old aunt, Maria Franciszka Benedict. The couple had no children. Three days later Joseph's grandfather died, and Benedict's father, King Joseph I., became the queen of the throne, and he was the successor of the throne of Portugal and assumed the title of Prince of Brazil and 14th prince of Braganza. He died at the age of 27 for smallpox and was buried in St. Monastery. Vincent of Saragossa.

He was decorated with the Portuguese Crosses of the Three Great Military Orders: Christ, St. Benedict of Avis and St. Jacob from the sword and the Spanish Order of the Golden Fleece.
