Kamal
The principle of measuring a stone
Kamal - a device used in navigation to determine latitude, by determining the height of the Polar Star over the horizon. It was mainly used in the Arab world.
It consists of a small board with a hole through which a string with knots is threaded. One end of the string is held in the teeth, the other pulls the hand roughly horizontally. Then move the board so that the lower edge overlaps with the horizon, and the top with the blue body (most often Polar). The position of the board allows you to read the height of the star over the horizon, allowing you to specify the latitude.
