Pierre Rayer (born 8 March 1793 in Saint-Sylvain, died 10 September 1867 in Paris) is a French dermatologist. He is primarily remembered for his work in pathological anatomy and physiology.
In 1837 he discovered that glanders, the deadly disease of horses, could be transmitted to humans. In 1841 he published a three-volume work devoted to kidney disease. In 1850 he first described anthrax; In Rayer's work, he presented the results of a study on Bacillus anthracis which he and Casimir Davain shared. Authoritative control (person):
