USS Saco (YT-31)
USS Saco tugboat in service at the beginning of the 20th century. The second United States Navy ship carrying this name. The tug "Alexander Brown" was built in 1912 for the Aransas Dock and Channel Company, Aransas Pass, Texas by A.C. Brown and Son, Tottenville (New York). It was purchased by the Navy on 30 September 1918 and was designated SP-2725.
Purchased for use as a tugboat at Naval Air Station in Key West operated there as "Alexander Brown" until November 24, 1920, when it was renamed "Saco" and received the classification number YT-31. He continued towing until he was removed from the Navy List on October 22, 1926. He was sold on May 3, 1927 to N. Block and Company, Norfolk. Bibliography
