The plot of the novel tells the story of how humanity has spread in the galaxy, thanks to "gleyworks" - people who have gained the ability to manipulate gravity. The oldest of them investigates the death of a friend, while discovering a conspiracy involving the power of the gleam and can shake the entire civilization.
