Szczecin Oderwerke

Stettiner Oderwerke AG - German shipyard existing until the end of World War II in Szczecin in Grabów.

History

In 1854 Möller & amp; Holberg (from the founders' name of the founders), converted in 1872 into a joint stock company Stettiner Maschinenbau-Anstalt und Schiffsbauwerft AG. On August 25, 1894, it was merged with Aaron & amp; Gollnow and was called Stettiner Oderwerke Maschinenfabrik und Schiffsbauwerft AG. The company fell in 1901, and on January 28, 1903 a new company, Stettiner Oderwerke AG für Schiff- und Maschinenbau, was established.

In 1933, the icebreaker SS "Stettin" was launched in Oderwerke. During World War II she built two U-Booty Type VIICs for Kriegsmarine: U-821 and U-822; The construction of two more (U-823 and U-824) was interrupted.

As a result of the war, it was completely destroyed, and after its reconstruction it was incorporated into the Szczecin Shipyard. Oderwerke was transferred to Lübeck in 1949 and in 1950 to Cologne. In 1961 it declared bankruptcy and was closed. Bibliography
