Tomasz Michałek

Tomasz Michałek - legendary resident of Giedlarow village near Leżajsk. His name was one of Leżajsk streets.

Legend has it that in 1590 Tomasz Michałek, an employee of the Leżajsk brewery, appeared on a tree trunk cut in a forest thicket. Joseph, saying to him:

Michałek did not fulfill the request of Our Lady fearing that no one, as a simple man, would believe. Our Lady revealed to him again, saying:

After the second revelation, Michałek passed the words of Our Lady to Wojciech Wyszograd, a member of the city council. He did not believe and led to Mikhail's imprisonment. Released by lack of evidence of guilt, Michałek placed in the place of revelation a crucifix, which became the object of pilgrimage and the object of worship. In 1595, from the foundation of Regina Piekarska, near the cross was built a small chapel of St. Anna, which was then expanded to the size of the church.

Our Lady appeared to Michałek for the third time:

The request of the Blessed Mother was passed in 1618-1628 when a brick church and monastery was erected there from the Łukasz Opalinsky Foundation.

Today, at the place of Michael's apparitions, the Basilica of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands. In one of its chapels there is an image of the Virgin Mary, painted according to the message of Tomasz Michałek by Father Eraz of the Order of the Gods. Bibliography
