Working Group on Financial Markets

Financial Markets Working Group - formed by the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, Presidential Decree No. 12631, signed on March 18, 1988.

Created in response to financial market events on October 19, 1987 ("black Monday") to enhance the integrity, efficiency and competitiveness of US financial markets, and to maintain investor confidence.

According to presidential decree number 12631, the group includes: Stock Market Settlement Group

One of the conspiracy theories on the Financial Markets Working Group is called the plunge protection team. According to this theory, the group manipulates the US securities markets in a controlled manner to prevent stock market crash by buying, for government money, stock or other financial instruments, including futures.

The term Plunge Protection Team was originally used as a headline article by Brett D. Fromson at The Washington Post, published on Sunday, February 23, 1997. The writer did not create this deadline, as he was later invented by the editorial department as a sensational definition of the Financial Markets Working Group.
