Jules Perrot
Jules Perrot ok. 1850 r. Jules Joseph Perrot (born 18 August 1810 in Lyon, died 29 August 1894 in Paramé (Saint-Malo)) - French dancer and choreographer.
Despite his low growth and ugliness, he was one of the greatest dancers in ballet history thanks to his exceptional agility. He learned to dance with August Vestris, who advised him to stay in motion so that the audience could not watch his face during the performance. He made his debut in 1830 at the Paris Opera, danced with Maria Taglioni and was so avidly welcomed by the audience that she did not want to dance with him anymore. Gautier called him the greatest dancer in the world.
In 1835 he went on a tour of Europe. In 1833 at the Teatro San Carlo, in Naples, he met Carlotta Grisi, who was only 14 years old. He became her maestro and lover for 7 years. They danced together in London, Vienna, Munich, Milan and Naples. In 1840 they debuted with Gypsy in Paris at the Théâtre de la Renaissance. In 1841, for the first time at the Paris Opera Giselle and despite the fact that his name does not appear on the poster, it seems that Perrot made choreography for all the parties danced by Grisi and became the second choreographer of this ballet, next to Coralli. From 1842 to 1848 he staged ballets in London for the Her Majesty's Theater, including: Giselle, Alma, Ondine, Esmeralda, Eoline, Pas de quatre, Catarina, Lalla Rookh, Le Jugement de Paris, Les Elements, Les Quattre saisons. In 1848 he went to St. Petersburg as the first soloist, and from 1851 to 1858 there was maître de ballet. At that time, he created 8 new ballets. In 1859 he left Russia, returned to France and remained there until his death. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
