Valproates - chemical compounds, organic salts derived from valproic acid. Used as a medicine for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. Valproic acid is slightly metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system, but can itself inhibit certain enzymes of this cytochrome, especially CYP2A9.
