120 mm recoilless L6 Wombat
L6 Wombat - British non-recoil. L6 and Vickers Vigilant were the battalion's anti-tank battalions of the British Army. Works L6 replaced in the 1970s the previous L1 BAT and L4 Mobat. The armament was withdrawn in the 1980s after the introduction of the Euromissile Milan armament.
The L6 gun was a threaded, detachable weapon. The gun was equipped with an optical sight and a 12.7 mm M8 rifle mounted above the barrel to pre-shoot the target. The two-wheeled platform enabled the L6 to roll over or tow at short distances, while on larger distances the gun was transported by an off-road vehicle. L6 was also installed on FV432 armored personnel carriers.
The basic type of projectile fired from the L6 gun was HESH. Cartridges were used to combat infantry. Bibliography
