Alexander Breknik


Aleksandrs Breis (Latvian Border Regiment) SS troops at the end of World War II. On January 28, 1919, he joined the newly formed Latvian army, taking the rank of lieutenant. In July he was promoted to lieutenant. From August to November he served as Commander of the City of Jūrmala, until January 1920 - the military region of Tukums, and until April 1921 - Rezekne region (at the same time he was the Chief of Staff). At that time he got the captain's degree. By June 28, 1922 he was deputy commander of the Rezekne region, and until May 11, 1935 - Jaunjelgava-Ilukste region, promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1925. By June 1, 1939, he was the commander of the Daugavpils region and annexed Latvia by the Soviets in 1940 - the Daugavpils-Ilukste region, advancing to the rank of colonel. After the occupation of Latvia by the German army in 1941, he cooperated with the occupying forces. On February 7, 1944, he led the 3rd Latvian SS Border Regiment in the Waffen-Standartenführer der SS. Already on 22 February this year he went to the General Inspectorate of the Latvian SS troops, becoming head of the SS-Wehrbezirkskommando Riga-Land und Madona. Since October he has been the head of the Talsi Administrative Office of the Administrative Region. After the end of the war, he was in the areas occupied by Allied troops. In 1951 he left for the USA, where he settled in Fargo.

He was decorated with Order of the Three Stars of the 4th Class, Cross of the Glory of Aizsargi.
