Filip Kutew


Filip Kutew (Bulgarian Филип Кутев, born 13 June 1903 in Ajtos, died November 27, 1982 in Sofia) is a Bulgarian composer and conductor, popularizer of Bulgarian folk music.

The violin was taught by Professor Hans Koch (1922). He graduated from the Music School (1926) and the Faculty of Pedagogical Conservatory (1930). He worked as a captain of the 24th Military Infantry Regiment in the region and then in the 6th Infantry Regiment in Sofia.

In 1951 he founded the State Folk Songs and Folk Dance Ensemble in Sofia, where he ran for the rest of his life and performed in many countries. Today this band bears his name. He was the author of folk orchestral works inspired by Bulgarian music (1937 Bulgarian Rhapsody, 1940 German symphonic poem, 1947 symphonic orchestra), chamber music, cantata and songs. He also composed music for films: Under the yoke (Bulgarian Под игото, 1952) and Clement Peter (Bulgarian Хитър Петър, 1960). Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
