Szaja Rosenblatt (born December 10, 1841 in Lodz, died December 30, 1921) - Lodz entrepreneur, founder of the factory.

Curriculum vitae

He was the son of Lodz merchant Dawid Rosenblatt (1817-1857) and Tauby of Sonenberg. In 1858 he founded a small textile factory in Lodz at ul. Piotrkowska 65. In 1873 launched a spinning machine and in 1885 mechanical weaving. The company grew rapidly, producing cheap cotton fabrics. After the acquisition in 1888 of the Brothers Trilling and Izydor Datiner, the company was transformed into the Szai Rosenblatta Cotton Product Joint Stock Company in 1892 and had a large industrial area of ​​7.6 hectares between Dluga, Karola, Pańska and Radwanska streets (now Stefanowskiego, Żwirki, Żeromskiego and Radwańska). At the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century, the company had a weaving mill, spinning mill, bleacher, dyeing machine and warehouses. After the death of the founder, the company began to decline and in the 1930s it was declared bankrupt. During the occupation of 1939-1945 the Germans took the machines and used the rooms as storage.

Fabrics produced by this company were cheap and low quality, which became the source of the notorious defining characteristic of Łódź: "siajowe", ie low quality, bad.

After 1945, the grounds and buildings were transferred to the newly established Lodz University of Technology, where the first university campus was built, where several former factory buildings were preserved. Family Szaja Rosenblatt was married to Rozalia (Rywką) from Lasecki (1842-1909) and had three sons: David (1861-1921), Aron Joseph (born 1864) and Salomon Majer (born 1866).
