Zaranik Reserve


Nature Reserve Zaranik is a nature reserve located in the eastern part of the saltwater lake of Bardawil on the Mediterranean coast of the Sinai Peninsula in the North Sinai muhafaza in northeastern Egypt.

The reserve was established in 1985, and its main purpose is the protection of migratory birds (the so-called IBA bird sanctuary). It has an area of ​​about 250 km², of which 68% is water and 32% is sand dunes. The reserve is from 0 to 30 m nm.

The entire protected area is covered by coastal wetlands. There are 244 species of birds. Hundreds of thousands of migratory birds appear here during the autumn migration. These are: flamingos, pelicans, herons, tentacles, witches, white terns. In the spring there were 24 species of birds of prey such as black kite, griffon vulture, gadflyer, common buzzard, steppe eagle.
