Hans Stanley
Hans Stanley (born 23 September 1721, died 12 January 1780) is a British diplomat. His grandfather was a scholar, Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753), founder of the British Museum.
Hans Stanley was the Chargé d'affaires of the British embassy in Paris in 1761. The war lasted for seven years, so there was no ambassador, and despite a low diplomatic status, Stanley was the head of the mission.
Between 1766 and 1767 he was a British ambassador in Russia. In 1780 he committed suicide. Bibliography
