Matthiessen State Park
Matthiassen State Park is a state park in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. Although the beginnings of the park date back to the end of the 19th century, in its present form and under the current name the park was opened in 1943. The park occupies an area of 1,938 acres (7.84 km²).
The park has two separate, though interconnected, areas. In the north is the Dells Area, whose main attraction is the interesting geological forms, canyons and so-called. "dells" formed in erosion processes in local sandstone. There is also a shooting range for archers and a campsite for people riding in the park. In the south of the park is the Vermilion River Area. There is an area where remote controlled airplanes can be opened. In both parts, a network of marked hiking trails with a total length of more than 8 km was marked out. There is also a trail connecting the two parts of about 1.6 km. Deer hunting is permitted after the relevant permits are issued.
