A wonderful image

Wonderful image - in Catholicism and Orthodoxy, the term used by the faithful defines the image or figure of Christ or of the saints, surrounded by worship in which the faithful are to receive extraordinary graces, or where allegedly inexplicable phenomena occur (eg tears in the figure, revelation). This term also refers to portraits on relics (eg, the Imprint on the Turin Shroud or Manoppello).

The church authorities, after appropriate procedures, publish images (non-relics) of famous or miraculous graces (depending on the intensity of the worship). This is connected with numerous requests of the faithful, an increasing pilgrimage movement to the sanctuaries where the images are worshiped, or the coronations of them. Cultures and relics are rejected by all Protestant churches, in which it is considered as idolatry, in the spirit of Deo gloria. A similar view is expressed by the restorationists. Also, some Catholic churches reject "miraculous images" and belief in the miracles associated with them, but they retain a great deal of respect for them. Most of the Old Catholic, Anglo-Catholic and Liberal Catholic Churches reject the worship of images as opposed to the Decalogue.
