argyria

A case of generalized silver, caused by the multi-use of nose drops containing silver

Silver, argyria (from Greek ἄργυρος "silver") - a syndrome caused by unintentional absorption or deliberate ingestion of silver compounds (mostly silver dust or colloidal silver). The main symptom is a change in the color of the skin to the sins or sinosis in places exposed to the sun. Discoloration may include some areas of the skin or its entire surface. This condition may be temporary and will cease after the absorption or withdrawal of silver has ceased.

This affection is most often encountered by workers in the silver mines in poorer countries where there are no suitable standards of work and those who abuse silver compounds for therapeutic purposes. Clinical tests

The results of studies on the effect of silver on the human body were collected by the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition to skin graying, the elevated silver content of the body does not cause disease, especially cancer.

The smallest dose causing symptoms at regular exposure is 0.014 mg silver per kilogram body a day.
