George Nuttall


George Henry Falkiner Nuttall (born July 5, 1862 in San Francisco - December 16, 1937) is a British bacteriologist who studies parasites and insect-borne diseases. His scientific contributions also included immunological issues, aseptic life, chemical composition of blood, arthropod disease (especially ticks). He studied the distribution of mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles in Britain in connection with malaria. With William Welch, he determined that Clostridium perfringens is a microorganism responsible for the occurrence of gas gangrene. In his studies, he demonstrated the importance of intestinal bacteria in the digestive tract and examined the bactericidal action of blood components.
