Union Flag
Union Flag
Unification flag - a flag used by both Korean states - North and South Korea - during some sports competitions. It was first shown in 1991 when both countries appeared as one team during the 41st World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba (Japan) and during the 6th Youth Football World Cup in Lisbon (Portugal). Both Koreas marched under the flag at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. However, during the competition both countries have already started separately.
The flag represents the outline of the Korean peninsula along with the islands of Chedu and Ullung. Smaller islands are not marked. The territory of Korea is blue and the flag background is white.
The Union flag does not have the status of an official flag in either of these two countries.
