Gates's Law - software speed is reduced by half every 18 months. This is an ironic to Moore's Law, emphasizing the tendency to downplay the speed of new software releases. Although the name suggests Bill Gates as author of the above "law," Gates himself never said these words. Origin of the term is related to the fact that Microsoft is considered the main cause of the growing size of the software.

Observed slowdowns of programs and the emergence of new versions can be attributed to various factors - developer laziness, poor quality code, new features added.
