Kolob Arch
Kolob Arch
Kolob Arch is one of the largest freestanding natural rock arches in the world. It is located in the state of Utah in the United States, in the northeastern part of Zion National Park known as Kolob Canyon.
The arc of the sandstone arch created some controversy, and due to the inaccessibility of the arch position it is difficult to determine precisely. Some sources, including the National Park Service, give it a length of as much as 95 meters, based on measurements made in the 1950s and 1980s. On this basis, it is sometimes referred to as the longest natural rock arch in the world, to which it was contested with the Arch Arch in Arches National Park, also in Utah. But the latest measurements made in 2004 and 2006 by The Natural Arch and Bridge Society have determined the arch span of 87 meters and show that the Landscape Arch has a span of almost 1 meter.
Kolob Arch is located in a relatively inaccessible part of the park and seeing it in nature requires at least 22 km of marching there and back along the officially marked trails. The easiest way to get there is the La Verkin Creek Trail from the Lee Pass in the northwest to the Beatty Spring. From here, the short trail of the Kolob Arch Trail leads to the lookout point where you can see the bow.
