Night and Day (sculpture)

Night and Day (Medicinal Tombstone) is a tomb of Giuliana Medici (Prince Nemours) by Michelangelo. It was built in 1520-1534. It is located in the Medici Chapel at the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence.

It is the second tombstone of Michelangelo made for the Medici. The composition remains in close visual harmony with the architecture of the chapel.

Giuliano holds the baton with his left hand - a symbol of command of papal troops, and in his right hand holds two coins - an allusion to his generosity. Armor in antique style covers a strong and muscular body - iconographic to statues of Roman emperors.

There are two other sculptures under the Giuliana Medici: Night and Day.
