Marian Eckert


Marian Eckert (born 11 March 1932 in Bydgoszcz, died 9 February 2015 in Zielona Góra) is a Polish historian, academic lecturer, former Zielona Góra Governor, honorary citizen of Zielona Góra.

Curriculum vitae

As a history student he was relegated from the university and sent to work as a physical education teacher in Rzepin. After several years he resumed and completed his studies, defended his doctorate and habilitation. In 1978 he received the title of Professor of Humanities.

In 1967 he became an employee of the Higher School of Engineering in Zielona Góra (transformed in 1996 into the Zielona Góra Polytechnic) and went to the position of professor. He served as Vice-Rector twice, and in 1987-1990 he was rector of WSI. After establishing the University of Zielona Góra he worked at the Institute of History at the Faculty of Humanities. He retired in 2002.

In the years 1993-1997 he was the voivode of Zielona Góra. From 1998 to 2006, the Democratic Left Alliance was a councilor of the First and Second Term of the Diet. Selected publications Bibliography
