- ULTRIX (unofficially also Ultrix) - version of UNIX operating system for DEC minicomputers.
The first UNIX implementations were made on DEC machines (especially known as PDP-7 and PDP-11). UNIX was also available on VAX machines. For example, UNIX System V Release 1, released in 1983, worked on the VAX. But since 1978, only the VMS operating system was written specifically for the VAX. ULTRIX was not seen until 1984, when BSD 4.2 and System V Release 2 were specially developed for the VAX systems at DEC. Later versions included items from BSD 4.3 and had DECnet support.
- was also the (only) DECstation workstation operating system with MIPS R2000 and R3000 processors with X Window System using the DECwindows graphical interface.
