Abdallah Nirki

Abdallah Nirki is an Egyptian village located in Nubia on the west bank of the Nile, 1.5 km from Abu Simbel, famous for its archeological excavations.

The excavations at Abdallah Nirki ran from 1962 to 1964 in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Dutch mission. The result was the discovery of a city existing between the sixteenth and the sixteenth centuries, surrounding the early Christian citadel.

There were three churches in the town, typical of the Nubian architecture. One of them unveiled well-preserved wall paintings from the 8th to the 9th centuries, depicting scenes taken from the Scriptures, the cross, the saints and theophanies. These paintings are similar to Faras paintings. Bibliography
