African Burial Ground National Monument
African Burial Ground National Monument is an American national monument located in New York. Located in Manhattan, the statue occupies an area of approximately 1400 square meters and includes a historic 18th-century cemetery with about 15,000 burials. The cemetery was discovered unexpectedly in 1991 during archaeological work carried out to prepare foundations for the office building.
The monument was established by President George W. Bush on February 27, 2006. Like many other national monuments, it is managed by the National Park Service in the National Register of Historic Places.
