Right of way (sailing)
The right of way is a set of rules of navigation on particular waterways. They are about passing and overtaking ships and the priority of the road.
In the broader sense, the right of way also applies to the use of lights, signs and signals, the behavior of ships under different visibility conditions, and the general precautionary principles of good sailing practice.
The right of way includes both international regulations such as the International Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea and local regulations established by local authorities on local waterways.
