Christian Fredrik of Gyldencrone
Christian Fredrik von Gyldencrone - Danish diplomat.
In the years 1771-1779, Christian Fredrik von Gyldencrone was a Danish ambassador in Stockholm.
During the debates of the Riksdag (1778-1779), Gyldencrone and Russian ambassador Ivan Simolin jointly prepared the conspiracy of malcontents to counter attempts to strengthen the royal authority by Gustav III. They wanted to ask Russia and Denmark to restore the democratic constitution of 1720 (the so-called Era of Freedom (1718-1772)). Thanks to that, Denmark and Russia would have a pretext to invade Sweden. Axel von Fersen, encouraged by the Russians and Danes to join the conspiracy, not only refused but delivered the conspirators.
Gyldencrone was recalled in 1779 not to irritate Gustav III's government.
His father was Christian Güldencrone (1676-1746) governor of Iceland in the years 1728-1730. Bibliography
