Henotikon
Henotikon (Act of Unification) - Emperor's decree (actually a letter to the Church of Egypt) developed by the Constantinople patriarch of Akatya on the initiative of Emperor Zeno the Izaur and announced in 482. He underscored the unquestionable rulings of the dogmatic councils in Nice, Constantinople and Ephesus, excommunicating those who proclaimed the doctrines adopted at the Council of Chalcedon. Henotikon's theological content was based on the 433 conciliatory formula of faith.
Henotikon was intended to bring about the reconciliation of the Church with the supporters of monophysics. He led, however, to the Akatsuki schism that lasted between 484-519 and ended with the adoption of the canons of the Council of Constantinople in Chalcedon. Bibliography
